Tourist Magazine is one of my all time favourite online magazines so im really excited to hear that they will be curating their first ever exhibition!
the installment will be showcasing a selection of their top rated artists, many of whom will have featured on their website already, so it'll be really nice to see some more of their work. the exhibition itself will be taking place this Thursday at the International Picture House in London and you can find out more details of that here.

very rarely do i completely and utterly fall in love with a pair of shoes. i think the last time was way back in 2008 when i purchased my Emma Cook for Topshop creepers, those babies didn't leave my feet for several months and still make me smile everytime i open my wardrobe.

but recently i was browsing the Acne website when my eyes fell on these amazing creatures called Alice. my mind actually boggles when i try to explain which bit i love more; the shape of the heel and the bit you slip your foot into, the two bejeweled tones of blue and turquiose perfectly complimenting each other, or the texture of the silk and the fact it reminds me of working with oil paints, i just want to stroke them and look at them all day.....

yup, totally head over heels (excuse the pun), and not in a healthy 'i've gotta crush' way, more 'my life wont be complete until i own these' way.
guess i better start saving the pennies!

wearing my new coat from Whistles a LOT - brilliant for throwing over anything and making me look semi-made up, spending Sunday flicking through 'Rodarte: Mondo Rodarte' and fawning over every page - a wonderful gift from a friend, getting excited to see the new buds on my rose plant, wearing my favourite sunglasses (Whistles again) in the rare glimpses of morning sun last week, falling in love with the latest addition to our room - a beautiful hand crafted wooden desk which we found abandoned on our street.

the New York Times recently profiled Margaret Howell and gave us a glimpse into her own home and the surrounding. as expected it's beautiful (i especially love the pasting table used as a desk in the first picture), and i absolutely love Margaret's outfit in the first image - a perfect simple yet very chic and totally ageless outfit.
if anything these pictures (and do check out the rest!) have got me very excited about going back to N. Ireland next week and confirmed utterly and completely that i will must likely have a shoulder length bob and fringe for the rest of my days!

im the type of person who has spent most of their NYEs throughout my life sitting in the house drinking fizzy wine, eating too much and watching Jools Holland's Hootenanny with my parents, so last year i made an promise that i would try to celebrate like a social/normal person.

last night i wore my beautiful sheer dress by Carin Wester, a rather heavy necklace and leopard print slippers. we then ended up at a house party somewhere in North London dancing to old school 90's dance hits and befriending a long haired daschund named Alfie...... i can see now why people choose to go out on NYE!

so yeah, HAPPY NEW YEAR guys! hope you all had a good one and here's to what i hope will be an awesome 2012 :)

these pictures have been hidden away, tucked up in a file on my laptop just waiting for the right time to appear, i wanted to wait until we really entered the festive season before sharing them with you.

a few weeks ago i attended an amazing little Christmas party hosted by the guys at Anthropologie at their branch on the Kings Road. it was such a lovely evening mostly spent stuffing my face with wine and mince pies and wondering around the room trying to mentally make note of all the things i wanted to make/buy people for presents. this Christmas im going to use them as inspiration for decorating the flat, first job; that amazing tissue paper/fairy light ceiling decoration!

Anthropologie is still the only place (other than Liberty) i can dander into and manage to find something for each of my friends, my mother, the boyfriend and of course myself. at the moment in my wishlist/basket, i have an amazing pair of pj bottoms with ships sailing the sea on them, and Deborah Turbeville's 'The Fashion Pictures'. both things that would make amazing Christmas presents *hint* hope the boyfriend reads this *hint*.... (not very subtle am i?)

i've been a fan of Sunspel for a while now, ever since i decided that i no longer wanted to waste money on cheap jersey that shrank in the wash and started looking for a brand that fulfilled that 'unisex look' that i love so much in clothing. there's something very satisfying about saving up for special pieces to add to your wardrobe, pieces that are simple but brilliantly made and are actually going to survive the million washes i put them through.

so i started off with one men's grey t-shirt and very quickly fell in love, one sample sale and a few trips to the Shoreditch branch later; and i have found myself the proud owner of some really beautiful basic staples to my wardrobe. most recently i treated myself to their jersey mid length skirt which is surprisingly warm in this colder weather and my knitted cardigan has practically been glued to myself everyday day since i bought it.

so i was pretty excited when i heard they were opening a new store in Soho, and when i found myself drifting through the area recently i couldn't resist popping in for a nosey! what's brilliant about the new branch is they have expended the store package to selling beautiful books, cashmere scarfs and other little bits and bobs. basically all the things i would love to buy my boyfriend for Christmas but will end up keeping for myself!

they've got a fantastic off on this weekend too if you pop instore or online; a discount of 18.60% (a nod to their year of inception) on any purchases between Friday 25th and end of day Monday 28th of November. definately worth treating yourself (or your boyfriend) to some yummy pieces of jersey or knitwear for this winter.

Haper's Bazaar's One Night Only at Westfield

with working such long hours these days, it hard to squeeze in much of a social life, so i was excited to be invited by Westfield London to attend the Haper's Bazzar's 'One Night Only' event at White City on Thursday night, to actually venture outside East London was a treat! the party was happening in The Village part of the store where you can find labels like Whistles rubbing shoulders with the likes of Prada and Miu Miu. not being much of a mall shopper, i have always quite liked White City because it's so large you are rarely bumping into other people, you just sort of glide from store to store. so getting to do that while drinking champagne and nibbling canapes was really an experience!

Haper's Bazaar put on quite the party with live fashion shows, live music, a beauty and blow dry bar where their beauty editor was giving tips and the styling lounge where their senior style editor Carmen Borgonovo was holding appointments for one to one styling advice.
I actually got to speak to her for a bit which was lovely, we mostly talked about a shared loved of polka dots this season and cooed over the pieces leant by Joseph, hence me trying on a £1,500 coat (see above in pictures) and swearing that it was actually made for me (it really was). also completely fell head over heals for Carmen's amazing studded Church's boots, quite literally couldn't take my eyes of them!

also got to chat briefly to the Face Hunter who was also there taking photos and spotted my own street style star later in the evening, in the form of the lovely Lally from Oh you're sure about that? who was wearing the most amazing mish mash of vintage and hand made all monochrome pieces. as quickly as it started, it was all over and time to go home, such a good night though. a massive thank you to Westfield London for the invite and Harper's Bazaar for throwing such a well organised party!

i managed to pop into Urban Outfitters Spitalfields the other night to see the launch of the CW by Carin Wester collection which has been created especially for UO. I've actually been a massive fan of Carin Wester for a while now, ever since i used to browse her stuff on Swedish websites back in the 'old' days of university and regularly spent all my spare pennies having swedish clothing shipped over by personal shopppers. (eek!)
already got my heart set on the teal sheer dress (seen in the last picture), the most perfectly cut loose trousers and the cute faux fur hats, might possibly have to start drawing up my birthday wish list now!

can't believe how long it's been since my last post, i do apologise, things as usual with work has been manic again. inbetween stressing about shades of paint and how to merchandise a trend though, i've been poring over photo shoots from 90's issues of The Face and Dazed & Confused. kinda perfect since i went to the Corinne Day: The Face exhibition last week with Mel and Michelle! im very lucky in the fact that my boyfriend works part time in a comic store that just recently got the biggest load of 90's magazines in, so while he's been doing his 'comic stuff' i've been hiding down the back of the store flicking through dozens of amazing magazines. the early issues from 1993 and 1995 with images of Bjork and Kate Moss are some my top favourite, think early 90's Bjork may be my new girl crush :)
im definately going to post more images of some of these as soon as i can, in the meantime if you want to get your hands on some of your own 90's inspiration, Orbital Comics has got lots on sale now.

p.s. oh and while i remember, i was very kindly invited to take part in a Radio 1Xtra show over London Fashion Week with other bloggers such as Susie Bubble and the amazing stylist Soki Mak. the show was broadcast last Thursday there but you can listen to it on their site. that is if you want to here my weird Northern Irish/English accent and myself saying "ummm...." a lot! haha. but yes it was a fantastic day and a really interesting debate between bloggers, stylists, editors etc etc so definately listen to it if you get the chance. and massive thank you to Sandy and the rest of the guys at Radio 1Xtra :)

LFW this year has so far been spent yet again doing things that pretty much had nothing to do with the shows! typically i have night shifts to deal with again (every single LFW this happens!) and so any free time i had was spent making the most of freedom. i did take part in a lovely/slightly surreal radio 1Xtra panel at LCF with the likes of Susie Bubble, Bip Ling and Soki Mak on Friday and hopefully didn't make an arse of myself!
Saturday i met up with the wonderful Mel and Michelle and we had a massive foodie day, squeezing in a trip to the Corinne Day exhibition, launch party of issue 4 of The Gentlewoman and general 'oohing' and 'ahhing' at A.P.C. and Monki between meals.

starting to go through the photo's i got processed from my last trip home, the top 2 are some of my favourites; the 'sleeply hollow' road near my house with it's wonderful twisted trees, and standing in my hallway with flowers from the garden. i will have to do a post with the rest off them soon.
came home today to find the vintage 'New York' brooch i ordered from Etsy a few weeks ago! it couldn't have arrived at a better time with all the stress at work at the moment, i plan to pin it to my Sunspel cardigan and blind everyone with it's glitz!

a few things i got up recently; drinking whiskey out of jam jars and eating obscene veggie burgers during the last days of summer, rowing down the river during a quick break to Oxford, 'Monty' the bike i would have given my right leg to take home with me, paisley top and necklace/bracelet by J.W. Anderson - the result of going to the sample sale with Mel and Kristabel, the very messy and amazing party at DKNY during Fashion Night Out, my stolen balloons ;)

a few weeks back i was invited by the lovely Charlie at Urban Outfitters to pop into their Oxford Steet branch to get to see the AW stock that had started filtering in. i'd been obsessing over the Autumn colour stories and textures since attending the AW '11 Press Day and it had been so nice meeting and get to chat to the folk from Head Office like Charlie and Stefanie. the nicest thing is that everyone that works there really loves the stock and you can tell are genuinely excited for new stock and new seasons! after spending something like 3 hours wandering around the store with total clearance to take as many photos as i wanted, i was then given the chance to pick a few of my favourite pieces. i jumped that these super comfy chunky heeled desert boots (reminded me so much of the boots by Swear i missed out on), a beautiful sheer shirt and this amazing leather pencil skirt which i am not ashamed to say i have worn nearly every day since!

i did want to post the pictures i took but somehow my brain wasn't working that day (blame the night shifts!) and i accidently delated them, sad times! i did take fantastic pictures at their Press Day where you can make out a few pieces that have already arrived in store, and those still to come - im holding out for the tartan trousers from their grunge trend 'The Cobain Collection', anything by Surface to Air and that amazing leather rabbit head bag!

p.s. - a big hello to Verity one of their designers who i bumped into and ended up chatting to in their head office lift, thankfully she didnt mind my tired appearence and ramblings (seriously, night shifts can go away!) and was so lovely in general :)

SERIOUSLY beautiful outfits from Margaret Howell from the new season, it took a very long time for me to whittle them all down to my favourite 18 (which of course i had to arrange in colour order!). what perfect examples of how simple layers, a belt clinching in the waist, possibly a scarf tucked under that belt and some decent knitwear will really make the transation into the Autumn so much smoother! i'm really struggling to pick my favourite pieces here, to be honest i want them all! first on my list is some proper chelsea boots and a sensible mac/waterproof - mother would be proud!

i fell in love with the clever editing of their SS '11 one and they have not disappointed with the latest video for Autumn/Winter 2011. think hauntingly beautiful music by Austra and images of exquisitely dressed models floating/slowing falling in mid air. watching it all gets me in the mood for Autumn and excited for layers of clothing and leaves on the ground, hurry up October!

taking a break between night shifts i did a few nice things this weekend (other than catching up on sleeping and eating!), i visited the Tracey Emin exhibition at Southbank - which if you get a chance to see it before it ends next week i definately recommend it! also got up early to hit the Sunspel sample sale where i invested in a beautiful knitted cardigan and some decent jersey for the Autumn. i may have also treated myself to a little thing from Topshop in the form of this rather attractive Tribly which just about fits my rather large head! it's the little things you do during night shifts that keep me sane :)

i suppose a large part of my desire to work as a visual merchandiser stems from my love of organisation and order. as a child i loved to organise my pencils, pens and paints in order of the rainbow and even today i cannot eat a packet of Smarties without first laying everything out in colour order, only then will i proceed to eat them with great satisfaction that everything was perfect. yeah i know, some people would say i have a 'problem' and most definately does it snowball into O.C.D. when i am really stressed (think refusing to relax sit down until everything in the room is tidy and back in its 'place' or re-organising my friends CD collection in her flat while flat out drunk). but seriously, there is nothing that makes me happier than being asks to merchandise jersey or hoisery in colour order, sad but true!

so yeah A.P.C.'s latest update to their website to include all the clothing in order of colour nearly made me squeal with excitement and made the whole process of browsing the site a lot more fun, well for me! part of me wishes every site was like this but i think that's just how my brain works when building outfits, i go by colour and texture first. so all this thinking about the rainbow spectrum ended up getting me itching to do some this evening and i ended up attacking my poor wardrobe of clothes. um yeah, it might be a tiny 'mental' problem i have, but look how pretty it makes everything look!!

recently; i've been eyeing up Topshop's fantastic AW footwear, spending far too much time in one of my favourite homewear stores Labour & Wait, attended the Summer Screen at Somerset House (we watched Gremlins and Tremors!), tried to inject a little colour into my wardrobe with this Topshop yellow midi dress - still felt the need to 'de-prettify' it with clumpy brogues and a grey t-shirt, found out there is going to be a Corinne Day - The Face exhibition soon so excited about attending that, spent a lazy warm day at Columbia Flower market drinking way too much Sangria and finally getting some plants sorted for the flat.

thankfully we got the internet installed today so im rather excited about catching up on my favourite blogs and watching old episodes of Poirot on my laptop :)

it's that time of the year again; uniform!
time to pick myself a few pieces to wear at work. usually during the summer months i struggle to find anything that isn't too sheer or flashes your bum when climbing ladders so im rather glad all the Autumn/Winter product has started to arrive. these are a few of the things so far i've got my eye on, just crossing my fingers it can actually comes into our branch.
and thankfully we should have internet in exactly a week so the blogging will return to tomorrow soonish, i think i may retreat to my room for several days to catch up on reading my favourite blogs haha.
other than that i've been exploring the area i now live in a little more which is nice since i discovered i only live around the corner from some really cute cafes and shops. a few of the fantastic places just off my road are Pelicans & Parrots (one of the most brilliant vintage stores i've come across in London) and the amazing LN-CC , so lots of distractions to keep me busy :)

confusing weather

the perfect mix of colours and textures from Antipodium for a cloudy/rainy day in London.
not sure what to make of this weather, one minute there is blazing sun, the next its pouring with rain. so far i have had to throw out two pairs of sandels that have got ruined from having to drag my feet through puddles. it seems the perfect outfit combines a midi or maxi skirt to cover my legs in the rain, a sheer cotton t-shirt for when the heat on the underground becomes unbearable and my trusty Uniqlo men's cardigans to throw on when the wind picks up.
this very confusing weather means i am spending a lot of time lusting over labels like Antipodium and their beautiful skirts, especially that patchwork one on the bottom left, BEAUTIFUL!

also news on the flat; we now have a sofa set (yay!) i am no longer ashamed to have people around and ask them to sit on my floor lol. i promise once we get my room sorted out i shall take some pictures to show you :)

it's been a long long week without the blog and without internet. even my father inquired as to why i hadn't posted lately so i know then i have definitely been away from blogs too long!

long story short, here's what I've been up to this week;

the day of the move i enjoyed good Scottish oats (to give me energy!) in the most beautiful cafe in Hackney, spent my first night in the flat enjoying some chips with what little furniture (although i doubt a rocking horse counts as 'furniture' but oh well!) we have in this place. i also went to Jacques Townhouse with the lovely Kristabel to binge on cider, cupcakes and popcorn. other than that i have spent my week eyeing up the checked shirts in Muji, lounging around the lovely Dalston Eastern Curve Garden and finally i treated myself to the latest 2 beautiful issues of Acne Paper after being tempted by 10:17 :)

so far life here in Stoke Newington is being good to me! hopefully i shall get internet in the flat and blogging will resume as normal. watch this space....

today i say goodbye to Chislehurst and hello to living in Stoke Newington, getting to this point has probably been the most stressful thing i've ever done (thanks by the way for all the well wishers!) and i fear i may be penniless for a long time now, but it is all going to be worth it to live in North London, hopefully own a bicycle finally and spend as much time as possible visiting all the galleries i want!

hopefully i will find somewhere with free Wi-Fi and there wont be too much of a gap in posts, and yes i shall definately post pictures of my new place asap :)

p.s. - my ebay listings end tomorrow, i shall also have an empty wardrobe by the end of the month!

...... the good news is today we offically got a beautiful flat in Stoke Newington!! so the dream of owning a beautiful bike with a basket is one step closer :) hooray!

it's going to be a crazy weekend with packing up the flat and having to move out on Monday (we're moving in with a very kind friend until things regarding housemates and finding a place sort themselves out!), but thankfully i have lots in the way of distraction with meeting up with old friends, attending the very exciting St. Martin's Courtyard Garden Party tomorrow, and seeing the Foo Fighters on Sunday (hooray!) so yeah prepare for a wonderful mental breakdown some time next week! at least i'll be doing it in style with my t-shirt by Wood Wood ;)

the move to another flat has had a 'few' hiccups and now delayed to the end of July, hence my foul/stessed mood all week which was only briefly lifted by a Jimmy Eatworld gig where i pretended i was 16 again and had no worries or responsiblities in the world, it was amazing. oh well, gives me more time to dream up ideas for the interiors and decide what vegetables/herbs i am going to grow during the summer. also thinking i really want to make my own quilt, if money was no object these ones by A.P.C. would so be mine!

had a wonderful day at the Graduate Fashion week on Sunday, the work of these students was stunning and there was definately some inspirational pieces on the runway! everyone was talking about Rebecca Well's amazing owl printed pieces which you can see more of here. these images above are my favourite images from Central Lanchashire's show and a few from around the exhibitions including the last picture which features the most stunning outfit on a girl i spotted browsing the portfolios - loving the breton top layered under the sheer shirt and those cute sandels and hat!

i've been on some lovely walks in rather dubious weather while home. one minute it is warm and the sun is shining, and the next gale force winds and hail storms! i have to say though, nothing beats a walk along the beach during a storm, there is something both scary and exciting about watching the waves 'fight' the shoreline.

this is my current wish list for an outfit that would serve the mood swings of the weather here rather well. i feel the mid length skirt is not just going to serve me well during the summer months, but continue to prove useful when teamed with oversized knits during the fall. and of course the Fjallraven would be the most useful and practical bag, miss woo is the proud owner of a beautiful navy one here.

i am struggling to find really good constant street style blogs at the moment that dont completely ignore the high street or seem unattainable in regards to recreating something similar in your own wardrobe. Jak & Jil is one one the few blogs that manages to get the balence just right of 'wowza designer outfits' and pieces that you could pick up something similar from stores like Zara, Topshop, Cos and American Apparel.

- MAJOR issues with Blogger as you've probably noticed has meant my last post on Urban Outfitters Press day vanished for the last 2 days and has just now re-appeared minus the comments which i never got to read, gutted :(
- i went to Whistles AW '11 event yesterday evening (which was fantastic, thanks to the guys at Whistles for the invite!) and fell in love with a fluffy pink jumper (mad i know!) and the most perfect tweed trousers EVER that shall be gracing our presence at the end of September, excited does not cover it!

Urban Outfitters AW '11 Press Day

i had the pleasure of attending Urban Outfitters AW '11 Press Day last week and even though i went straight after working a night shift and had no sleep whatsoever, it was well worth it! i got the chance to have a good look at the main trends that will be appearing; A Dark Romance (inspired by what a Goldsmith Fine Art student would wear) and Cobain (think the androgynous 90's, lingerie pieces worn with grungy cardigans and Coco Sumner). so i think it's safe to say i am totally going to plunder the Cobain trend!
they also had the designer labels that will appearing late July so it was a perfect opportunity to see what Carin Wester and Whyred have in store for us, and it is gooooood!
my favourite pieces from the trends had to be the raspberry pink mohair jumper (lots of good knitwear coming our way!), red velvet shorts, the amazing creeper brogues, the black leather bag with the silver rabbit heads and the hiking boots with the embroidered detail.

so yeah i have a wish list ready and waiting!
oh and a massive thank you to Stefanie for inviting me, everyone was so lovely at UO :)

p.s. - i also finally had the chance to go through my wardrobe and down size it before i move flat next month, it was hard, but i was very strict with myself! i listed all the items on eBay which you can find here.

complete wrong time of year but i couldn't resist this amazing coat from Kennedy Holmes and her amazing etsy store (Miss Woo is a massive too!). i came across 'the coat of my dreams' on a sleepy trip on the bus to work and for once it actually paid to be up at 6am in the morning - gotta love the trans-atlantic time difference!
now all i need is some cloud and rain....

i've been watching a lot of Hepburn movies this week and fell in love with Funny Faces from 1957 featuring Fred Astaire and set in Paris. but my favourite thing of all is Audrey's casual but elegant wardrobe (think lots of black polonecks and tapered trousers!), especially the beige trench coat seen above. i need one like that in my life!

but instead i am wasting time on the Whistles website dreaming up a wish list and imaging my summer in cute red shorts and cashmere t-shirts *sigh*
also reminds me how desperately i need a hair cut!

1. spent Friday afternoon taking in the atmosphere of The Royal Wedding around London
2. saw the most excitable little old ladies taking loads of photos of themselves with various people/land marks
3. outfit that day was my denim jacket and sheer floral maxi from Topshop and my new sunglasses from ASOS
4. drank too much Pimm's on my friends balcony in celebration
5. spent Sunday in my usual haunt's including Margaret Howell, loving their current window display
6. tried on too many pretty things in Liberty including a lot of J.W. Anderson, i fell in love with the jumper on the left!
7. bought myself some really cute sunglasses from Urban Outfitters
8. and ahem... bought myself a little something from Margaret Howell ;)

can't help but be excited about the Royal Wedding today, no matter how you feel about the Monarchy, today's celebrations are slightly infectious! heading into London now to attend a few street parties hopefully,i hope everyone today is doing something nice where ever you are :)
